A Little Bit of Love – A Brotha’s Perception of Body Image and Beauty

It's 2015.

Now is the time where fat transfers, implants and waist trainers are becoming more and more the standard for black women. You know how it goes with the masses, they feel like they have to do what the next person is doing in order to make it instead of going their own route. For some women, saying no to unhealthy and costly surgeries or "equipment" that cause serious health risks to their internal organs is not an option. To make things worse, their counterparts are so enamored with how they look based off of some corporation’s warped view of how women should be viewed.

Well good thing I'm not really one of those guys that goes with the flow of things.

Any woman should love the way that she looks, regardless of how anyone else sees it.

If you're a larger-framed woman – love your look. If you're a medium-framed woman – love your look. If you're a taller woman – love your look. If you're a shorter woman – you get the picture. Your look is what makes you special and sets you apart from everyone else. If you're out here putting your body together like the next woman, what are you really saying about what God gave you? Now if you're unhappy with your look then by all means change it ma’am – It’s your God given right to do so. Just don't go out and change your appearance for external forces that try to tell you what you should look like when they don't even look like you.

Be the best version of you for you and no one else, because in the end you are the only one that matters when it comes to viewing how you see yourself.

But today I'm here to talk about the women that are on the smaller side of the scale. The ones that may not have all of the curves in the world. The ones who feel ashamed because the music videos don't have their body type and feel awkward when they go to the club and see all of the guys clamor over big booty sisters. The ones who think going out and getting these unhealthy surgeries are going to do them justice because that's what some men want to see. I'm here to tell you that none of that even matters, to be quite honest.

When I sit back and I see you slender and smoothed skin sisters walking through the crowd, it's nothing short of amazing.

You have to remember that every single model that you see from the other races walking down all of those runways, are trying to imitate you. When you hear those stories of those other models developing eating disorders to stay their size, it's because they are trying to copy the size that you are naturally given from the Lord.

Your body is God given and it's fit for a queen, and you should definitely be proud of that.

Going into the New Year we (African-Americans) are attaining a different mindset to take back our culture. We are taking back everything from entertainment, civil rights, the way we do business, our culture and major parts of the fashion industry. You are going to see more models that look like you walking down runways and more that look like you in magazines. When you start to see just how much you are truly loved in this world for what you look like because it was given to you by God, you're going to realize that you’ve always had support. You're going to see that being you is just as awesome as the sun shining on a cool autumn day.

So to all my sisters that are on the skinny end of the spectrum, don't worry one single bit because your time is coming and you're going to kill every second of it.
